An incident groups everything about a real-world problem: the alerts it caused, a timeline of updates, who owns it, and what you learned afterwards.
Open an incident
Choose Open incident on the Incidents page, or on any alert to link that alert to the incident. Opening one from an alert fills in the title, severity and first message for you. Set:
- Title: what users would notice, like "Checkout is slow".
- Severity: info, warning or critical.
- Owner: who is leading the response (you, by default).
- What's happening?: the first update on the timeline.
- Show on status pages: publish it on your status pages and email subscribers.
Owners and admins can also turn on Open incidents for critical alerts in the team settings. Every critical alert then opens a private incident on its own. When all its alerts recover, the incident moves to Monitoring with a note, and you resolve it once you're sure.
The Incidents page shows how many are open, how many were resolved in the last 30 days, and your mean time to resolve.
Status updates
Post an update each time something changes. Every update has a status:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Investigating | You're aware and looking into it. |
| Identified | You know the cause and are fixing it. |
| Monitoring | A fix is out and you're watching. |
| Resolved | It's over. |
For public incidents, each update appears on your status pages and in the RSS feed, and updates you post are emailed to subscribers. Notes Alertly.Net adds by itself aren't emailed.
Team notes
Use Team notes for internal discussion. Only your team sees them, even on public incidents. Alerts and servers have team notes too.
Postmortem
Once an incident is resolved, write a postmortem in Markdown. A starter template covers the summary, impact, root cause and what you're doing about it. On public incidents, tick Show it on the status page under this incident to share it with customers. That builds trust after a bad day.
AI help
When AI features are on, Summarize with AI writes a short summary of what happened, the likely cause and next steps, from the timeline, linked alerts and team notes. Only your team sees it. Draft with AI, next to Post an update and on the postmortem, writes a draft for you to review. Nothing is posted until you do.
